Do I need to register?
Usually you can attend without registering. Confirm the venue and access details with the group first.
Do I have to speak?
You can start by listening. Tell someone you are new if you would like help finding your way.
Is there a membership fee?
There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership. Groups support themselves through voluntary contributions.
Is A.A. religious?
A.A. is not a religious organisation. Its programme includes spiritual language; people with different beliefs and no religious belief attend.
Can family and friends attend?
Interested visitors may attend open meetings. Closed meetings are for people with a drinking problem who want to stop. Check the format before going.
How should I respect anonymity?
Do not identify other members publicly, take photographs, or repeat their personal stories without permission.
Can I also get medical or counselling support?
Yes. A.A. is peer support and does not replace professional healthcare. Talk to a clinician about health concerns or withdrawal.
